Planning your vacation and dreading those lines at theme parks when what you crave is quiet and stress-free? Humungous theme parks can be exhausting for some of us, but now we can have a Disney vacation without the long lines because Disney’s 2 latest creations are not theme parks but resort hotels.

Aulani, on Hawaii, and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, in Orlando, comply with ADA standards. Aulani, a stand-alone resort, opens August 29, 2011. Its website has a section for guests with disabilities. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, a family-suites hotel, opens early summer 2012, but you can book rooms now.

Aulani

The beachfront property sports a saltwater snorkeling lagoon, water slides and a “lazy river,” an 18,000-square-foot spa, 2 restaurants and indoor and outdoor meeting and event space. A world-class marina delivers sports fishing and recreational boating.

If your vacation is more than 30 days away, make reservations online at Disney Aulani. Click on “Book Your Vacation;” from the drop-down menu, click on “Guests with disabilities.” A form lists accommodations to check:

  • Wheelchair accessible bathroom
  • Roll-in shower tub and handrails
  • Connecting rooms for medical assistance
  • Bringing a service animal
  • And more

After you submit the request, a Disney reservations agent will contact you within 72 hours.

If you plan to travel in 30 days or fewer, call (714) 520-7001 or your travel agent to make reservations.

Art of Animation Resort

At this Disney resort, guests will be immersed in their favorite Disney stories – including Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Nemo” and “Cars,” and Walt Disney Pictures’ “The Lion King” and “The Little Mermaid.”

Suites are designed after Finding Nemo, Cars and The Lion King, while rooms are inspired by The Little Mermaid. You’ll feel like you’re in a Disney story with all your favorite characters.

Just outside are 3 swimming pools and 4 playful courtyards—one for each film.
