The preferred candidate will have automotive dealership experience with ASE Certification and experience in all areas of general automotive maintenance. You must be able to work both independently and in a team environment. You must be able to adjust to change and continously learn new equipment. Familiarity with wheelchair accessible van conversions such as BraunAbility and VMI and experience servicing Ford and Chrysler vehicles is a plus. You must have a valid Drivers License and a clean driving record. Compensation will be based on level of experience. In addition, preferred candidates will have these attributes:
- Customer service mentality
- Mechanical hands-on capability, strong electrical aptitude (CAN bus, LIN bus, major components of vehicle electronic system, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of computers & computer diagnostic tools
- 2-3 years experience

The automotive technician’s main objective is to maintain the operation of the service department by inspecting, diagnosing, estimating & recommending repairs, and maintaining vehicles. The automotive technician will perform each of the following tasks:
Inspects: Technicians will thoroughly inspect vehicles to find all current and potential problems to determine what is necessary to keep vehicles in proper working order and address customer concerns. Fills out all inspections sheets including PDI forms, UCI inspection sheets, multi-point sheets and other documentation.
Diagnoses: Based on inspection results, technicians will diagnose customer concerns and other problems as follows:
- First – What the customer brought the vehicle in for
- Second – Any Safety Issues (for the vehicle, driver or passengers)
- Third – Anything that will save the customer money if done with a. or b. above
- Fourth – Any future related items or recommended maintenance
- Fifth – Any Elective or Cosmetic issues
Estimates: Technicians will estimate the required repairs and/or maintenance for the vehicle. Estimates will include a short but complete description of:
- What is necessary to make the repair or to maintain the vehicle
- Why is it necessary
- What parts are required to do the job properly
- And, how much time does the technician believe it will take to perform the task
Recommends: Lists parts and labor necessary for performing repairs and any other recommended items. Discusses and submits repair order with complete description of cause and corrections necessary to repair vehicle to service manager for approval.
Repairs: With service manager’s approval & assistance obtains parts, makes repairs, and verifies that all repairs have been done correctly the first time. Ensures that customers vehicle is clear of debris, oil, or tools etc., and returns any customer items removed before final delivery.
Finalizes: Finalizes repair order by completely listing cause of failure and steps taken to repair concerns, listing any future recommendations, and making sure all lines have been completed and all times have been logged on and off. Moves vehicle to the back lot when repairs are finalized, submits final repair order and keys to service manager for review and invoicing. Advises service manager of any concerns. Request next job from service manager. Technician is to advise service manager when something is on hold so that he can be given something else to work on.
Follows through: Keeps all training and certifications current based on NMEDA & dealership standards. Ensures work area is cleaned daily. Performs other daily task assigned.
